Avengers: Endgame Character Poster Has Fans Thinking Vision Survived

Is this Avengers: Endgame green line a hint, a glitch ... or just wishful thinking? It might be a combination of things, but the existence of a splash of color toward the bottom of Vision's "Avenge the Fallen" character poster has some fans hopeful he survived Thanos' snap. The posters featuring characters who survived the Avengers: Infinity War Decimation are all in color, with those confirmed to have been in the less lucky 50% shown in black-and-white. (Side note: It's like the Big Brother memory wall.) So that's why the green line in Vision's poster raised eyebrows:

He's an artist, but he didn't create that poster image. There's also a green line in the poster actor Paul Bettany tweeted. However, as many fans noted, there is no such green line in the posters shared by Avengers: Endgame directors the Russo Brothers or by Marvel Studios.

It's possible Vision's green line was a technical glitch Paul Bettany passed along. But this is Marvel, and fans have been trained to read into every little detail -- or at least fans have decided to go ahead and read into every little detail. There are any number of things that bit of color could mean, if it wasn't a mistake.

Some fans think this might be a hint to Vision returning as a ghost of himself, as he did in Marvel Comics. As CBR noted, when Thanos killed Vision the second time in Infinity War -- after turning back time from when Scarlet Witch finally destroyed the Mind Stone -- a close-up of Vision's face showed his eyes turn completely white. That was read as a possible hint to the "West Coast Avengers" storyline where Vision had been disassembled, and was essentially dead, but Hank Pym was able to put him back together as this ghost version. The new Vision wasn't just white, though, he also lacked the emotion of the previous Vision. That was particularly hard on Scarlet Witch, who was then his wife.

It's possible Paul Bettany's poster just had a technical error. But maybe... Fans don't have long to wait for answers on who might return in Avengers: Endgame. The task at hand for the survivors is to somehow fix what happened -- bring back the 50% who were snapped. Whatever it takes.

Don't forget that Disney+ is also planning some kind of Vision and Scarlet Witch series for the new streamer. Disney+ is meant to premiere later this year, and we're on standby for more details on these standalone series. Avengers: Endgame has to come out first, ending Phase 3, to give us a big hint on the direction of the MCU from here.

How Shazam! Managed To Keep Its Major Spoiler A Secret

Warning: spoilers for the third act of Shazam! are in play. If you havent seen the film yet, please bookmark this article, and come back once youre caught up.

Despite the fact the comic history behind Shazam! has integrated the idea of an entire family of heroes, all signs pointed to the DC Comics film being centered solely around Asher Angels Billy Batson and his super heroic alter ego played by Zachary Levi. Prior to the films release, there wasnt even a whisper about the rest of the familys eventual appearance during a pivotal moment in the third act. This is a pretty rare occurrence in this modern age of spoilers and leaks, and director David F. Sandberg recently revealed the following strategy was what made such a unique surprise possible:

We cast the kids first, and then sort of looked for a physical resemblance. And then, to keep things under wraps, just because things leaked as much as they do, we actually wrote custom scenes for each character that weren't from the movie. So the people who came in to audition had no idea that they were basically reading for a superhero.

As seen in this weekends #1 movie, Shazam! eventually expands the roster of superheroes to include Billy Batsons five foster siblings. Just as Asher Angel and Zachary Levi were cast to be the mortal and magic halves of the child/hero coin, there was obviously a need for other adult versions of all the other children in the family. Which eventually lead to the need to cast said adults, without letting them in on any big secrets that could accidentally leak into the world.

Its an ingenious move that other top secret productions have used to help throw off the scent of any potential spoilers. Basically, instead of having actors like D.J. Catrona or Adam Brody reading for the big showdown at the Chilladelphia Winter Festival towards the end of Shazam, fake scenes were written so the actors would get the gist of their characters during auditions, without revealing the big secrets.

One can never be too careful when it comes to a project as high profile as Shazam!, or any superhero franchise entry for that matter, because while its easy to discredit any leaks under the guise of fake spoilers, the eventual truth comes out once those first showings hit. David F. Sandberg not only understands this, but he also broke down the strategy, and one of the alternate scenes written, in the example from his talk with Screen Rant:

It was just sort of everyday scenes with characters that had the traits of them. So for Darla, Meagan Good, she read for a scene with a girl that's doing a driving test, and she's like a fast-talking character... I hope we can maybe put that on the Blu-ray or something, because they're fun scenes with these great actors.

Based on the results shown in the film, this method paid off, especially in the case of Goods portrayal of Darla, because it bases itself off of the very same sort of principal that any good comic adaptation like Shazam! builds its proper screenplay around. While nailing the look of a hero is important, getting the language and feel of the story into the script is paramount as well. If you can put that to bed easily, then you can write the characters youre tackling in any context, as seen here.

With Shazam! in theaters now, and Shazam! 2 retaining that first films screenwriter, its probably a safe bet that whomever auditions for crucial roles in that films narrative might not even know it until theyve signed on. So if you happen to be auditioning for Warner Bros and/or David F. Sandberg in the near future, youll probably want to make sure you take that SAT prep scene uber-seriously.

One Marvel Cosmic Character Who Probably Survived Avengers: Infinity War

Warning: SPOILERS to follow for Avengers: Infinity War!

The end of Avengers: Infinity War left the Marvel Cinematic Universe in shambles. We witnessed some heroes killed at the hands of Thanos and many others turn to dust before our eyes. But the MCU is vast, and there are plenty of other characters that were left off-screen after the snap. While the Russo Brothers have shed light on some characters, the fates of others have been left ambiguous. One cosmic character that probably survived, at least according to the actor behind him, is Thor: Ragnarok's Grandmaster. Like a rapper spitting about how great he is, Jeff Goldblum spoke about the Grandmaster, saying:

Grandmaster is more superheroed than all of them put together. You can't kill me, I'm like a vampire. I'm deathless and I can kill people by looking at them. Or I can resurrect them just by looking at them and thinking of them. I can do everything. Being able to do all of that, all I want to do is play games. So really I'm everywhere and nowhere. I'm like Keyser Sze.

Grandmaster always survives because like life, he finds a way. Seriously, Jeff Goldblum is hilarious here comparing the Grandmaster to a vampire and Keyser Sze, and praising him as a powerful immortal puppet master playing games with all of his lessers. Jeff Goldblum does seem to be embellishing the Grandmaster's powers just a smidge here, while also reminding us how perfect he and the character are for one another. I'm not sure how the Grandmaster could have avoided the universe-encompassing snap, but maybe he likes to play the odds and wound up on the right side of that coin flip.

Of course, this statement to Digital Spy is hardly a confirmation of the Grandmaster's continued existence from the powers that be at Marvel Studios, but in his hilarious way, Jeff Goldblum touches on how the Grandmaster is the kind of character that survives by the skin of his teeth every time, eluding death even when half the universe is wiped out. When last we saw the Grandmaster, he was on Sakaar and had fallen quite far from his lofty position, and he was in quite the precarious situation. But the old rule goes if you don't see a character get killed, they're not really dead. When asked directly if the Grandmaster is still currently alive in the MCU, Jeff Goldblum played it coy while also seeming very willing to return to the character, saying:

I could be, potentially, very much around. Anything they want me to do I'd be ready and able.

So it sounds like it could go either way and Grandmaster's fate probably either been decided yet or at least not told to Jeff Goldblum. If Marvel continues to lean into the cosmic elements in Phase 4 and beyond, it would be great to have the Grandmaster show up again. Jeff Goldblum sounds up for it, and cosmic characters like him and the Collector (who also may have managed to survive) that pop up in multiple movies opposite different heroes really add a fun element while also providing some more connective tissue to the universe.
